The Sri Sanatan Dharm Seva Samiti of Fiji, a charitable organisation aimed at supporting underprivileged Sanatanis in times of need during a death in the family, will be officially launched tomorrow.

Trustee Chair and former Police Director Traffic Mahesh Mishra says the Samiti was formed with the goal of assisting those in the community who may be struggling financially—particularly during difficult times such as the passing of a loved one, where timely funeral arrangements are required.

Mishra says the organisation has been working for the past two years to establish its systems and processes, including setting up a constitution, financial policies, a registered bank account, and ensuring accountability and transparency in all its operations.

He says the main purpose is to offer support to Sanatanis who are in genuine need and may not be able to afford certain rituals or services, such as final rites, and to assure the community that assistance will be provided on a case-by-case basis according to set vetting procedures.

Mishra says the vetting process will include reviewing the individual’s financial background, confirming eligibility through death certificates and references from community leaders, and ensuring that help goes to those truly in need.

He adds that while they aim to respond as quickly as possible due to the time sensitivity of Hindu funerals, they must still follow the organisation’s processes to maintain integrity and fairness.

The Samiti is currently seeking support from donor agencies, individuals, community groups, and businesses to continue its work.

Mishra acknowledged those who have already contributed towards the launch and encouraged more people to come forward and support the cause.

Mishra also confirmed that the Samiti will be working in collaboration with all stakeholders, including the Sanatan Dharam Pratinidhi Sabha of Fiji and the Brahman Maha Sabha.

He extended his heartfelt thanks to all those who have supported the formation of the Samiti and urged the public to attend the launch and back the initiative, which he says is for the betterment of the community.

The Samiti will be officially launched tomorrow at the Hanuman Sadhu Gadhi Mandir, opposite Rups Nakasi.
