Spartan Fiji Event Director Chris Heverin says Spartan is for everyone young and old. Heverin says Spartan is the biggest obstacle race in the world, and is in 45 countries which include running, walking, jumping, climbing, carrying, crawling, going through mud, rivers and just having fun.

The Event Director says Spartans love traveling and Fiji is a great destination with great accommodation and perfect weather.

He says for those overseas Fiji is an adventure holiday where they come for a week have a great time and then do the event and be part of the Spartan community.

Heverin says the Spartan course here is going to be one of the best in the world.

He says a big part of the arrangement with the government is to encourage Fijians to exercise, be fit and have some fun.

The Spartan Race kicked off this morning and will run till Sunday.

Tomorrow will be the children’s day where they have invited schools to come and be a part of the event.

Saturday is the ‘Endurance Day’ for the really serious athletes which is a 21km and a 50km course which is where most of the Spartans coming in from around the world will race in.

Sunday is a day for everyone with a 5km and a 10km course.

The race course is at the Aviva Farms in Sabeto and 3,000 to 4,000 Spartans are expected to turn up for the races this weekend.
