Poor performance from the Fiji Airways Men’s National 7s side has led to the team not winning any of their pool matches at the HSBC SVNS World Championship in Los Angeles.
Fiji lost to New Zealand 17-12 in their first pool match, then they were edged 15-14 by Australia, and then Spain thumped them 24-12 in their last pool match.
Spain dominated their match against Fiji, scoring two unanswered tries in the first half to lead 12-0.
Fiji’s first try came in the second half through Kavekini Tanivanuakula, but Spain responded through a try to Eduardo Lopez to extend their lead to 19-5.
Fijian Drua development player Aisea Nawai gave Fiji some hope, scoring a try in the 13th minute to close the gap, but Spain had the last say as they scored again through Jeremy Trevithick to book their place in the cup semi finals tomorrow.
The semi finals are at 8.07am tomorrow, with the cup final at 12.07pm.
