The Soweto Gospel Choir have been forced to cancel their New Zealand tour amid coronavirus travel restrictions.

The celebrated South African choir were set to perform 10 shows as part of their Freedom tour, dedicated to the late Nelson Mandela.

Their first show was scheduled for Wednesday at Auckland's Kiri Te Kanawa Theatre in Aotea Centre, as part of the Auckland Arts Festival.

The group was due to arrive in New Zealand after midnight on Sunday when the border control measures took effect.
