Chinese Ambassador to Fiji, Zhou Jian says he has had a meeting with Minister of Education, Aseri Radrodro as some vocational colleges in China have shown interest in setting up sister colleges in Fiji.

Jian says vocational training should be a priority for the young generation in Fiji that will lead to economic development and job creation allowing them to support their families.

This was highlighted in a briefing that discussed China’s development in various fields and in Fiji.

He says the proposal has been made to the Minister and they are waiting for his response.

He will also have a discussion with the Minister to see if they can restart the vocational centres that have been closed.

He adds tourism is one of Fiji’s strongest pillars and they will work together to strengthen this.

Jian says it is great to see how actively Fiji speaks on climate change issues and is also an active contributor to peacekeeping regionally and internationally.

He says the relationship between the nations can be improved through more meetings involving the leaders to discuss, solve and implement things effectively.

The Chinese Ambassador says the Economic Summit happening this year will become a blueprint for Fiji to recognize the areas that require help and development.

He says they will also look into strengthening the agricultural, rice technology and fisheries industry in Fiji.

Jian says China will continue helping in the infrastructure, medical and education sectors and expand knowledge of renewable energy to provide electricity to villages and islands.

The Third Belt and Road Forum will take place this year in China where Fiji government representatives and entrepreneurs will be invited to attend and he expects more fruitful discussions.
