Some homes have been damaged in the Nakasi area yesterday afternoon due to strong winds.

Nakasi resident Ricky Prasad says the incident happened at about 2pm yesterday afternoon.

Videos circulating on social media shows damaged homes, fallen powerlines, fences and gates destroyed and even sheets of corrugated iron flying in the wind.

The Nadi Weather Office says there were reports of severe thunderstorms in that area.

They say winds of over 100km per hour can cause damage to houses.

However, the office is currently collecting data to confirm what exactly caused the incident.

They are expected to release more information with the NDMO.
