The Skipper Cup Competition will be the first rugby union competition held in the country which is expected to kick off on the 25th of July.

This has been highlighted by Fiji Rugby Union CEO John O'Connor after the Prime Minister's announcement on the lifting of the ban on sports activities and sporting events.

O'Connor says they understand there are still restrictions in place and they have already undertaken their accreditation and it has been approved.

He says the announcement also confirms that the Vodafone Vanua Championship will kick-off on the 22nd of August.

He further says they hope that provincial teams will kick start their training from today.

The CEO adds that they are thankful to the government for placing the restrictions on sports in ensuring the safety of players.

O'Connor had earlier highlighted that when the restriction on sports is lifted, rugby union competition will resume 4 weeks after the announcement to allow players to prepare well.

Suva is the current champion of the Skipper Cup.
