Six chiefly titles are currently vacant in Kadavu.
This includes one title from the district of Nabukelevu, one from the district of Ravitaki, one from Naceva and two from Nakasaleka.
This has been highlighted by the Roko Tui Kadavu Kitione Raibevu during the Bose ni Vanua that was held at the Provincial Council Office in Vunisea.
Raibevu says the role of the Provincial Council is to conduct meetings and offer advice on the processes and procedures of installing a chief, however, the confirmation will come from the Office of the Chairman of the iTaukei Lands and Fisheries Commission.
He says the mandate of choosing a chief rests with the Vanua, however, most of the villagers are working in Viti Levu resulting in the low number of people staying in the village.
The Roko Tui Kadavu adds this has been an ongoing issue for them and he believes that it is not only faced in Kadavu but in the other 13 provinces in the country.
