Six men are in custody after they were arrested on Christmas Day for possession of illicit drugs.

Police say a 38-year-old unemployed man from Nabua was found with seven sachets of dried leaves wrapped in aluminum foil, believed to be marijuana.

They say a 24-year-old unemployed man from Qauia, Lami, was found with a branch of dried leaves believed to be marijuana after being searched by officers.

They further say two men, aged 44 and 40, from Vusuya, Nausori, were arrested in Valelevu after being found with two zip-lock plastic bags containing a crystal-like substance, believed to be methamphetamine.

Police say a 52-year-old man from Nakelo, Tailevu, was found with 20 sachets of dried leaves wrapped in aluminum foil, believed to be marijuana.

They add that a 50-year-old unemployed man from Tomuka, Lautoka, was arrested for possessing five sachets of dried leaves wrapped in aluminum foil, believed to be marijuana.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations Livai Driu says the police conducted drug checks throughout Christmas Day and will continue monitoring picnic spots and communities.

He says all six individuals are in police custody awaiting drug analysis as investigations continue.
