As Hindu communities across Fiji and around the world celebrate Ganesh Chaturthi, Minister for Multi-Ethnic Affairs and Sugar Industry, Charan Jeath Singh highlighted the significance of the occasion as a time for devotion, reflection, and national unity.
He says the 10-day celebration, which marks the birth of Lord Ganesh — the elephant-headed deity known for bringing prosperity and wisdom — is a time of devotion, joy, and togetherness.
The celebration includes prayers, music, processions, and the installation of Ganesh idols in homes and temples.
Singh emphasized that Fiji's greatest strength lies in its diversity, saying that cultural and religious festivities continue to strengthen the bonds between communities.
He adds that the Coalition Government is committed to protecting and promoting the country’s rich religious and cultural traditions.
The Minister also urged all leaders to use this occasion as a platform to educate and raise awareness about respecting other religions and places of worship.
