Shriha Deo and Demira Lal of Jai Narayan College overcome challenges to score 398/400 in Year 12

It was a day to remember for two students of Jai Narayan College who have overcome challenging and uncertain times to score the joint highest mark 398 out of 400 in the Year 12 examination.

Demira Lal scored 100 in Mathematics, 100 in Chemistry, 100 in Physics, 98 in English and 97 in Biology while Shriha Deo scored 100 in Mathematics, 100 in Chemistry, 100 in Physics, 98 in English and 96 in Biology.

With school closed for face to face to learning for most part of 2021, Lal says the biggest challenge about online learning was that it was difficult to understand some things.

She says concentrating on studies was also difficult when studying from home because there were a lot of distraction.

Lal adds she is happy to have made her family and friends proud.

Shriha Deo who also scored 398 says she was surprised when she first found out and it took a while to control her emotions.

Deo says it was a very difficult year filled with obstacles and she even faced mental challenges due to the second wave of the COVID outbreak last year.

She says studying from home was a big challenge as they were not openly interacting with their teachers.

Meanwhile a 65% pass rate for the Year 12 exam has been recorded by the Education Ministry and out of the 5 students with the highest marks, 3 are from Jai Narayan College.

97 students of Jai Narayan have scored over 300 with the school recording a 97.5% pass rate.

12,195 students sat for the exam and around 16% of the students did not turn up which is an increase of 4%.
