The former Japanese Prime Minister, Shinzo Abe was a true friend to Fiji and a model to every leader and the shocking and cowardly attack has cast a long shadow over the G20 Meeting in Indonesia.

While paying his condolences, Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama says Abe has always been a faithful friend to Fiji and him personally.

He says the Former Prime Minister’s death is a terrible loss for Japan and the world.

He adds he prays that, in his memory, we can strive to end violence in all corners of the world, for this was Abe's peaceful legacy.

The former Japanese Prime Minister was shot while giving a speech at a political campaign event.

The attack on Japan’s former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe was an act of brutality that happened while he was out on the campaign trail in the lead-up to his country’s general elections which is the very foundation of democracy.

This has been stresses by the People’s Alliance Leader, Sitiveni Rabuka who says he is deeply saddened by the shocking news of the sudden passing of Abe who succumbed to gunshot wounds in a terrible incident yesterday morning.

Rabuka says his demise is an irreparable loss not only for Japan but also for the world at large.

He says Abe was Japan’s youngest premier in the postwar era, a visionary statesman, a charismatic leader and a relentless champion of democratic values and ideals.

The former Prime Minister has paid his deepest condolences to the family of the late Prime Minister and to the Government and People of Japan.

We are shocked and deeply saddened by the untimely passing of Former Japanese Prime Minister, Shinzo Abe.

These sentiments have been shared by the National Federation Party Leader, Professor Biman Prasad who says they mourn with their friends, the people of Japan, and share their deepest condolences with the former Prime Minister’s family.

Abe passed away this morning after being shot at twice during a campaign rally yesterday afternoon.

The former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe was a generous friend of Pacific Island countries and remained firmly committed to ensuring the security of Japan and the Indo-Pacific region.

This was stressed by Fiji Labour Party Leader Mahendra Chaudhry, who has condemned the brutal assassination of Abe, during a political rally in Japan on Friday.

Chaudhry says the former Prime Minister is a towering statesman and is widely hailed as a promoter of global peace and reconciliation while remaining committed to ensuring the security of Japan and the Indo-Pacific region.

He adds Abe was a charismatic leader who stood for human rights and democratic values.

The FLP Leader has conveyed his sincere condolences to the Abe family and the people of Japan.
