The Marist Old Boys and the Suva Grammar School Ex-Students Association today raised concern over the recent level of violence and unruly behavior that has been displayed by a small group of students from both schools.
Marist Old Boys president Nesbitt Hazelman said that as former students of the two schools, they DO NOT CONDONE violence in any shape or form and the course of justice should prevail for the perpetrators and their supporters.
Suva Grammar School Ex-Students Association trustee Selina Kuruleca said we should have respect for each other and differences that result in violence should be set aside.
The old scholars associations from the two schools are also fully committed to assist the school administrators of both schools in reconciliation through this difficult time.
They have also suggested that effective disciplinary measures within our school system be introduced to discourage future violence.
The alternatives suggested include school based community work for identified perpetrators, anti-bullying campaigns and support groups within each organization.
Professional counseling and support for victims, perpetrators and their families is also recommended.
