A senior official at the Fiji Revenue and Customs Service has been charged for his alleged involvement in the unlawful importation of more than 4 kilograms of methamphetamine seized at the Nadi International Airport.
Seven people have now been charged after a joint operation by the Fiji Police Force and the FRCS.
Commissioner of Police Rusiate Tudravu had directed the Criminal Investigations Department’s Major Crime Unit, to conduct a thorough investigation into the wider network of those allegedly involved in the importation of illicit substances.
The accused has been charged with one count of unlawful importation of illicit drugs and one count of Breach of Secrecy Oath under the Fiji Revenue and Customs Service Act 1998, as he had allegedly disclosed confidential information he received in the performance of his duties.
The accused will appear at the Nadi Magistrates Court today.
