Fiji Revenue and Customs Service Acting CEO Fane Vave

The Fiji Revenue and Customs Service Acting CEO, Fane Vave confirms the screenshot of an email which is allegedly talking about overstating of government revenue in the National Budget is a poorly photoshopped image of a fake e-mail relating to the former CEO of FRCS.

Vave says the matter has been referred to the Fiji Police Force’s Cybercrime Division for further investigation.

She says they have conducted an exhaustive search of their servers to verify that no such e-mail was ever sent across from their internal network and they won’t allow FRCS’ independence to be undermined by anyone, particularly not by instigators on social media cowering behind keyboards.

Vave is also asking the media to adhere to higher standards of fact-checking to assess the authenticity of such blatantly-manufactured images.

Meanwhile, the former CEO of the Fiji Revenue and Customs Service Visvanath Das has denied sending an email to the executives of the FRCS on 5th August, 2019 which is currently being publicly circulated.

Fijivillage has also asked FRCS for its comments on the purported email in August 2019 also saying that the emails should be deleted by the IT team.

A response is expected soon.
