A prominent boys' school in Suva has confirmed that they are facing a crisis regarding the bus card assistance given by the Ministry of Education from last year where they have only received one purple bus card throughout the year.

The school says this has greatly affected the academic journey of most students early this year, as parents can not send their children to school because the Ministry of Education has failed to give the purple bus cards for the second year consecutive now.

The Parents and Guardians of this school have voiced their frustrations to fijivillage News.

When fijivillage News spoke to the school management they confirmed that for this year only 12 cards were given by the Ministry and this has caused frustrations amongst parents and Guardians of the school.

The school says they have 900 students enrolled in the school and more than half of these students have applied for the purple card assistance.

The Permanent Secretary for Education Selina Kuruleca says as civil servants they are duty-bound to ensure that all processes are followed.

Kuruleca says if they are claiming that, then it probably means that their forms are not verified and it is their responsibility as civil servants to fulfill and carry out government policy.

She adds that this is government policy and cards cannot be issued or paid if the verification and uploading are incomplete.
