Scaling set for possible reintroduction in 2025 pending cabinet approval

Scaling set for possible reintroduction in 2025 pending cabinet approval

Subject to Cabinet endorsement, scaling could be reintroduced in the national examination process in the 2025 education year, after the completion of public consultation, policy adjustments and policy preparation at the school level to ensure transition.

This has been confirmed by Minister for Education Aseri Radrodro while responding to a question by Assistant Minister for Home Affairs Ratu Rakuita Vakalalabure on an update on the re-introduction of scaling.

Radrodro says the Cabinet has endorsed that public consultation be undertaken.

He says scaling makes a fair representation of student performances and it helps normalize examination scores to account for varying degrees of difficulty across subjects and exams.

The Minister says it also addresses disparities and aligns with international standards where many countries use a form of scaling in their national examination system to ensure consistency and fairness.

He says scaling ensures that the student's results are credible and comparable at a global level.

Meanwhile, Opposition MP Premila Kumar stood to ask a supplementary question, however, she failed to get the Speaker’s attention, who then moved onto the next question.
