Sayed-Khaiyum attacks fijivillage when asked on whether he is micro-managing FijiFirst

Former FijiFirst Party General Secretary, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum

Former FijiFirst Party General Secretary, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum attacked fijivillage News when asked on whether he is trying to micro-manage the FijiFirst as he continues to have press conferences on behalf of the party rather than other executives although he has resigned as General Secretary.

Sayed-Khaiyum says he is following their party constitution and if the president of the party wants him to hold the press conference then he will do that.

While responding to the question, Sayed-Khaiyum says this is all personalised as he does not see us asking these questions to any other parties.

Sayed-Khaiyum stresses that Voreqe Bainimarama is the leader of the FijiFirst and will continue to remain the leader of the party, and they will deal with the matter again in 2026.

Sayed-Khaiyum says he, Bainimarama and Salesh Kumar are foundation members of the FijiFirst.

When questioned in what capacity he is having a press conference, Sayed-Khaiyum says he is a foundation member of the party.

He also says they are awaiting the appeal process after the prison sentence of Bainimarama.

According to the FijiFirst Constitution, the party’s foundation members have all the rights and privileges of members of the party but shall also have perpetuity subject to the rights of the Leadership Committee to terminate such membership in accordance with the Constitution, to automatically be members of the Leadership Committee for as long as they are foundation members, and have the exclusive right to vote for and appoint to or remove persons from the Central Executive Committee.
