The Water Authority of Fiji would like to inform members of the public that the Sawani Bridge will be closed for access today.

WAF Corporate Communications Officer Peni Shute says the temporary bridge closure is in two parts and will enable WAF Contractors to safely carry out works which involve the transportation of bridge beams from the assembly area nearby as well as the installation of the beams onto the bridge support for the pipeline bridge situated adjacently to the existing Sawani Bridge.

Shute says the Sawani Bridge will be closed from 6.30 am - 10 am and 1pm - 4 pm on Sunday, 19th February 2023.

He says members of the public traveling to Suva-Nausori from Naitasiri or vice versa will be able to access Qiolevu Road.

He adds that members of the public traveling by foot will still have access through the Bridge and will only be stopped during the lifting process.

Fijians are requested to plan their travel accordingly and follow the directions of the flagmen and the site traffic controls to ensure the safety of motorists and workmen.

These works are part of the new 40 million litres water treatment facility, which is part of the $270 million 'Rewa River Water Supply Scheme' in Viria, Naitasiri which will resolve the intermittent water supply issues in the Lami-Suva-Nausori corridor benefitting around 360,000 Fijians.
