Savusavu Police Operations Team pursuing suspects in Tukavesi after assault of government officials

Savusavu Police have identified, and are pursuing a number of suspects, alleged to be involved in the alleged attack on Government officials in Vusasivo Village, Cakaudrove.

Police say information gathered by investigators, is that the driver of the government vehicle was trying to avoid a potential accident caused by one of the suspects, who was allegedly intoxicated and staggered onto the road.

They say as a result the government vehicle, veered off the road.

Police say following the accident, a group of intoxicated youths approached the scene and allegedly physically assaulted the driver and the passengers, and stole their personal belongings.

They say all six men were taken to the Tukavesi Hospital, where two were transferred to the Labasa Hospital for further treatment.

Police say as of this morning, only one of the victims remains in hospital in stable condition, while the other was discharged.

Police have managed to obtain the victims' statements, and are now pursuing those involved in the attack, and are expected to make arrests soon.
