Makelesi Inise Bui Savua

Makelesi Inise Bui Savua from Tobu Village in Ra has been named the Dux of Nasinu Secondary School, earning the highest overall score in Year 13.

Savua, a pure science student, achieved an impressive 382 out of 400 marks.

The 18-year-old was also recognised for topping the Year 12 external examination last year, with an outstanding score of 360 out of 400.

Savua says her success is deeply rooted in the strength and sacrifices of her mother, who has been her greatest source of inspiration.

She adds that she is determined to further her studies at the School of Medicine, with hopes of building a career in the medical field and giving back to her family.

Meanwhile, her mother Miliana Fong says Savua is the first of her children to complete Year 13, and she is extremely proud of her daughter for being named Dux of Nasinu Secondary School.

Fong, an Assistant Lecturer in Mathematics at FNU Labasa Campus says she never forced her daughter to study hard, as Savua’s drive for excellence has always been self-motivated.

Fong adds that during every school break, she takes her children to their family farm in Labasa, called Good Earth Tabia Farm, so they can experience the challenges of hard work and learn values that will help them become better individuals.

She also acknowledged the support of her extended family throughout her daughter’s education journey.

Fong is urging parents and guardians to support their children’s education, emphasizing that education is the foundation for a better future.
