Salary cuts if any will be announced in the National Budget

Minister for Economy Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum

Any decision on pay cuts for civil servants as a cost-cutting measure will be announced in the National Budget.

When questioned by Fijivillage if the government is looking at a deduction in wages and salaries of civil servants after a significant drop in government revenue, Minister for Economy Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum says the expenditure breakdown will be provided in the next budget.

He says the current policy is that they do not have any civil servants losing their jobs and people will have to wait for the budget.

It was earlier stated by Sayed-Khaiyum that the government spends $4 million a day on wages and salaries of civil servants and members of the disciplined forces.

He had revealed in parliament yesterday that government revenue is down by $1 billion, expenditure is only down by $300 million, and most of the tax revenue is down as there are no more tourists at this stage.
