Cath labs will be installed at the Sri Sathya Sai Sanjeevani Children’s Hospital next April to support more interventional procedures for children.
This was highlighted during the Eco Equity Conference at the University of Fiji.
During the event, the hospital’s Director, Dr Krupali Tappoo stresses one of the major challenges they face is the lack of cath labs, which will now be addressed with the installation scheduled for next April to improve diagnostics for pulmonary hypertension.
She adds the hospital has also faced financial difficulties, with many of them selling their cars and jewellery and undertaking various activities to raise money for the facility.
Dr Tappoo emphasizes that limited resources continue to be a challenge, stressing no access to a lot of cardiac medications.
She also noted the shortage of local expertise in the field of paediatric cardiac care, stressing that it is vital to invest in children’s health and future.
The hospital does heart surgeries for children for free.
