Sacrifices have paid off for 12-year-old Solomone Catarogo after he was awarded the Dux Award for Navoalevu Primary School in Vanua Levu.

While speaking to fijivillage News, Catarogo says he used to wake up at 5am to study for two hours and he would also study at night during his free time.

He says he is happy to have won the award and is thankful for his family’s support in helping him study.

Catarogo has dedicated the award to his parents and grandparents.

He is encouraging other students to continue to strive, despite the hard times.

His grandfather is famous Labasa football rep France Catarogo and when asked if he plays football, Catarogo says he would rather focus on his studies.

The 12-year-old says he will attend Nadogo Secondary School and he aims to also become a Dux in high school.
