The villagers of Rukua in Beqa believe they have been blessed after receiving a boat and an engine from the Minister for Rural and Maritime Development and Disaster Management that aims to generate revenue to cover their church operation expenses.

While handing over the boat and engine, Minister responsible, Sakiasi Ditoka emphasised the importance of this project for the community, highlighting how crucial reliable transportation is for the Talatala to perform religious duties and connect with the congregation on Beqa Island.

The ceremony concluded with a blessing of the boat and engine by the Talatala, followed by traditional celebrations that included feasting and performances, showcasing the vibrant culture of the Rukua community.

Ditoka says the Rukua Boat and Engine project will primarily support church operations by providing transportation for the Talatala to the Tabacakacaka Naduruvesi on the island of Beqa.

He says the boat and engine will also be available for community use, significantly enhancing mobility and access to essential services such as healthcare, education, and markets.

He adds the project is expected to have a positive economic impact on the village by generating revenue through transportation services and the revenue will help cover church operation costs and contribute to community development initiatives, including infrastructure improvements and social programs.

The Minister encouraged the villagers to maintain and take care of the boat and engine to ensure its long-term benefits for the community.

The villagers expressed their gratitude for the government's support, acknowledging that the boat and engine would greatly improve their quality of life and strengthen their community bonds.
