People can expect long-term solutions to address traffic congestion to begin within the next 12 months, as Minister for Transport Ro Filipe Tuisawau has confirmed plans to include more access roads into Suva through Colo-i-Suva and Koronivia, as well as road widening.
While speaking to fijivillage News, Ro Filipe says these works are ongoing and they will see more developments in the next 12 months in terms of the widening of the roads.
While providing an example of road widening, he says a new Tamavua-i-Wai Bridge will be constructed, with a ground-breaking ceremony to take place soon.
He says currently there is a technical assessment of the widening of the road from Laqere to Nadera into four lanes and access roads from Wainibuku to Princes Road, and Koronivia to Naulu is also underway.
He says these are immediate short term measures, and they are also looking at long term, including rail network and also redeveloping the intersections, including overhead crossings.
The Minister says they are doing some technical assessments on key specific areas where congestion is an issue.
The Ministry is currently holding public consultations on solutions to curb traffic after which a month long trial will undertaken.
Ro Filipe says he is waiting for an update from the consultation, after which he will decide when the trial will begin.
