Former Chief Executive Officer of the Fijian Broadcasting Corporation, Riyaz Sayed-Khaiyum and Chief Financial Officer, Vimlesh Sagar will take their plea in December in their case involving the tender and procurement of a 3.0L Volkswagen Touareg vehicle valued at $207,470.
Both appeared before Magistrate Viniana Diroiroi this morning.
Sayed-Khaiyum faces two charges of abuse of office and general dishonesty – causing a loss while Sagar is charged with one count of general dishonesty – causing a loss.
Sayed-Khaiyum's lawyer Gul Fatima raised concern that her client was charged before he was arrested and this is something they would raise before the trial.
FICAC lawyer Lilian Mausio says the law does not provide the order in which it should be done but she welcomes representation.
Meanwhile, Sagar's lawyer Ritesh Singh says FICAC is yet to provide details on the loss alleged in the charge.
He says this is needed to provide a defence.
Mausio apologised for the oversight and requested for more time to provide the details.
These charges stem from allegations involving the tender and procurement of a 3.0L Volkswagen Touareg vehicle valued at $207,470.
Both were earlier discharged on the 15th of May for this matter after FICAC withdrew the case.
The incidents are alleged to have occurred between September 1st and November 11th in 2022.
The matter has been adjourned to the 10th of December for plea.
