Rising food prices will have little effect on you and your family if you are willing to make adjustments.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture official facebook page, this was relayed by Minister for Agriculture, Waterways and Environment Dr. Mahendra Reddy to Koroqaqa Farmers Co-operative in Baulevu while handing over a portable rice mill.

Reddy stated that we need to make adjustments in terms of substituting cheaper and healthier food for expensive imported products.

He says households must learn to make adjustments.

Reddy went on to say that if during the COVID-19 pandemic people complain that the bundles of beans were $8, they need to make adjustments to consume those agricultural produce which are less expensive and while supply resumes and prices go down, you can then resume consumption of those.

Meanwhile the National Federation Party says in a shocking display of insensitivity, Doctor Mahendra Reddy is telling the public that they won't feel the impacts of the rising cost of food prices if we just made adjustments. The party says the Minister is telling people to make adjustments to spending while at the same time receiving an annual salary of $148,000.

NFP says this is while thousands of Fijians are still reeling from the effects of a pandemic and having to suffer from an increase in the cost of living.

The NFP President, Pio Tikoduadua has tweeted that Reddy gets picked up and dropped off in a ministerial vehicle paid for by you and gets a salary of $148,000. Tikoduadua says Reddy does not have to make adjustments.
