The Rewa soccer team has won the Punjas Battle of the Giants tournament after beating Suva 1-0 in the final at Churchill Park this afternoon.

Bruce Hughes scored the only goal of the game in the first half after his strike from inside the box flew past a helpless Beniamino Mateinaqara.

Suva came close to finding the equalizer in the second half but were constantly denied by the Rewa defence.

Speaking to Fijivillage after the match, Rewa coach Marika Rodu says the win is a bonus to them financially because a number of their players were struggling due to COVID-19.

The prize money is $17,000.00

This is Rewa’s BOG title since 2017.

In an earlier match, Ba settled for third place after beating Nadi 2-1 in the 3rd/4th playoff.

Solomon Islands International Darold Kakasi scored twice for Ba in the win.
