Discipline has again cost Rewa, as they are out of the OFC Men’s Champions League after a 1-0 loss to Tahitian side AS Pirae in the Solomon Islands.

Pirae scored their point deep into injury time.

Rewa’s John Orobulu had three opportunities to score points, but his first strike hit the side of the net, while the other attempts were foiled by Tahitian goal keeper François Decoret.

There was some concern for Decoret when he received a gash to the head whilst defusing a pass for Orubulu down the other end and after a very lengthy delay, reserve goalkeeper, Titouan Courtois, came on in his place.

The extent of the stoppage made for 23 minutes of injury-time at the end of the second half.

Drama struck with ten minutes of injury-time to play and the referee pointed to the penalty spot for Pirae when Patrick Joseph pulled down Mathis Lacan in the box.

Delon Shankar was shown a second yellow card and dismissed from the field for questioning the decision.

Yohann Tihoni found the bottom-right corner of the net to break the deadlock in the 18th minute of injury-time.

Rewa will be playing for pride when they face Auckland City at 4pm Saturday.
