A restaurant/ shop in Toorak, Suva has been closed by the Health Inspectors from the Ministry of Health and Medical Services Food Unit after it failed to comply with the Food Safety Regulations Act 2009.

The Ministry says the inspectors had to close the shop down yesterday after traces of rat faeces and presence of pests were found inside the shop.

The food business operator had received prior warnings and notices to comply but failure to do so resulted in its closure.

The Ministry of Health and Medical Services is warning Food Business Operators - owners of restaurants and small eateries to ensure their premises are clean and free of pests.

The Ministry adds that restaurant staff should adhere to good food hygiene practices and proper food handling practices.

It says failure to do so will result in issuance of non-compliance notices and may lead to closure of businesses.
