Residents of Wailea Settlement start cleaning up their homes after flash flooding

Residents of Wailea Settlement in Vatuwaqa are now cleaning up their homes after heavy rain caused flash flooding in Suva.

While speaking to fijivillage news, a resident from Wailea Settlement says that most of their belonging got wet due to flash flooding.

She says the water went down at about 10pm last night.

The mother of one says her family managed to save and secure their belongings from getting wet and are now drying them in the sun.

she says her bed, clothes and furniture got wet while electrical items are destroyed.

She adds block drains and high tide yesterday afternoon caused the flash flooding.

Verenaisi Tiatia from Wailea Settlement says family started cleaning the house and putting out all wet clothes and other belongings in the sun early this morning.

Tiatia says her husband managed to save some of their belongings from getting wet when he saw that the water level kept on rising yesterday afternoon.

She adds all of their family members managed to sleep over at her in-law's place last night.
