Residents of Navunivesi and Malabi settlements in Tailevu who have not been receiving regular supply of clean drinking water for years can now look forward to sufficient clean water supply.

This comes after the Ambassador of Japan to Fiji, Kawakami Fumihiro and Water Authority of Fiji’s Chief Operating Officer Seru Soderberg signed the grant contract for Japan to provide funding worth $154,510.

Soderberg says the people of Navunivesi and Malabi will forever be grateful for this assistance.

He also highlighted the assistance will allow the Water Authority of Fiji to provide safe drinking water to Fiji’s rural communities and help bring Fiji a step closer to achieving Sustainable Development Goal.

Fumihiro says he is pleased they will be alleviating such struggles of more than 300 people who live in Navunivesi and Malabi.

Fumihiro says he believes this project will further strengthen the friendship between the Governments and people of Japan and Fiji.

He says Japan’s commitment to this project is much aligned to the vision of the Water Authority of Fiji, which is ‘Clean Water and Sanitation for a Better Life’, and will certainly improve the living standards of the communities.
