Hindus shop in preparation for Diwali celebrations

With Diwali just around the corner preparation has started today with the Dhanteras celebration.

fijivillage News spoke to some people out and about in Suva today on what Diwali means to them.

Kavita Chandra from Laucala Beach says it is the time to reset yourself and live life to the fullest by spreading happiness this Diwali.

Chandra was out with her daughter doing their last-minute Diwali shopping and was also out to shop for something in silver or gold for Dhanteras as it is believed to bring prosperity.

She says their preparations are going well and urges Hindus to look out for people around them who may not be able to celebrate this Diwali by sharing sweets and good memories.

61-year-old Uma Wati says this Diwali will be a special and emotional one for her as her son will be returning tomorrow from Australia after four years.

Wati says everyone has a bad phase in life and therefore this Diwali they should appreciate the good times and be considerate of the unfortunate ones by giving them some food and clothes.

She says she will purchase her puja items today so that nothing is missed during the day of Diwali puja.
