Salesi Rayasi scored twice as Auckland registered their third Mitre 10 Cup win of 2020 after beating Bay of Plenty 20-6 in Rotorua last night.

Auckland who are the 2018 champions had to hold off the resurgent Bay of Plenty in the second half of an ugly Premiership clash littered with mistakes but their victory will be important in the race for the semifinals.

Despite multiple phases in a dramatic finish, Bay of Plenty couldn’t break Auckland down and knocked on pushing for the match-winning try.

Rayasi was always a threat and centre Tumua Manu consistently got over the advantage line to punch holes in the Bay of Plenty defence.
