Thousands of Fijians, especially those in rural and undeserved communities, will soon benefit from expanded free medical services through a new partnership between the Ramakrishna Mission Fiji and the South Pacific Relief Fund in the United States.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Professor Biman Prasad says that since 2012, the Sarada Medical Centre in Malolo has provided free healthcare to more than 100,000 patients.
He adds that with this new partnership, the centre will add a doctor, a nurse, and a new outpatient unit — significantly increasing its capacity to serve those in need.
Professor Prasad also acknowledged the leadership of Swami Bhadreshananda, President of the Ramakrishna Mission Fiji, saying this collaboration strengthens their shared mission of compassionate service to humanity.
He highlighted the vital role of faith-based organizations like the Ramakrishna Mission in supporting education and health — aligning with Fiji’s National Development Plan 2025–2029, which prioritizes accessible quality education and healthcare for all.
Professor Prasad says that with ongoing investments, including a record health budget and the construction of a new super specialty hospital, the government remains committed to empowering the people of Fiji through unity and improved social services.
