Rakiraki staged a brilliant comeback to thrash Lami 6-2 and successfully defend their Senior Division title at the FMF Inter-District Championship at 4R Stadium, Govind Park this afternoon, with Waitsoni Seru stealing the show after netting a brilliant hat-trick to seal the victory.
Rakiraki’s Puneet Kumar opened the scoring in the 28th minute, but Lami’s Rohit Chand equalised before Sahil Naresh put Lami ahead 2-1 at halftime.
The second half saw a much improved Rakiraki side, with star player Sanjay Dutt scoring the equaliser.
The score remained level at 2-all until the final whistle, with Rakiraki saving their best for last.
Jone Loga struck first in extra time, but it was Seru’s sensational hat-trick that delivered the trophy to Rakiraki.
Rakiraki coach Shalvin Ram say the players were determined to defend the title and executed a well made plan.
Ram says they were physically fitter than Lami and hung on to the ball to score 4 goals in the extra time.
Attention now turns to the Premier Division final underway between Nasinu and Tavua, as anticipation builds for the Super Premier final between host Ba and Rewa at 3pm.
