People can expect a rainy weekend with occasional rain and thunderstorms.

The Nadi Weather Office says a trough of low pressure, with associated cloud and showers, is affecting the northern parts of the country, whereas another trough is affecting the southern parts of the group.

They say both troughs will gradually merge and affect the country until tomorrow.

The Weather Office says occasional rain and a few thunderstorms are expected over the Northern Division, Lau and Lomaiviti groups, Kadavu, and nearby smaller islands.

People can also expect cloudy periods with rain over Navua-Suva-Nausori, Tailevu-Naitasiri-Ra, Serua-Namosi, Yasawa, and Mamanuca.
