Fiji’s weightlifter Taniela Rainibogi has achieved another milestone after being the first Fijian male lifter to secure a Top 20 finish at any World Weightlifting Championships.

Rainibogi finished in 16th place out of 31 lifters in the 109kg at the 2024 IWF World Championships in Bahrain.

Weightlifting Fiji President Della Shaw Elder says competing against a field of elite lifters, including medalists from the recent Olympics, Rainibogi’s achievements mark a significant milestone for weightlifting in Fiji.

He says Weightlifting Fiji extends its gratitude to the Fijian Government, the Fiji National Sports Commission and the Fiji Sports Council for their unwavering support of the World Championships campaign.

Elder says special thanks also go to Resonance Fiji and Yadra Fiji for their continued partnership and their invaluable support for our athletes both in training and competition.

He adds as they look ahead to the upcoming season, Weightlifting Fiji remains committed to fostering excellence and supporting athletes like Rainibogi as they continue to make Fiji proud on the global stage.
