Senior SODELPA Minister and parliamentarian, Aseri Radrodro

As the SODELPA Management Board meeting takes place tomorrow, there are indications that senior SODELPA Minister and parliamentarian, Aseri Radrodro is likely to become the new party leader by around March next year as current leader, Viliame Gavoka has said he will not contest the next general elections.

SODELPA General Secretary, Viliame Takayawa says they respect Gavoka’s decision.

Takayawa says according to their constitution, a new party leader is elected if the party did not win the elections.

Takayawa says they also understand that Gavoka has gone through a lot.

He says with the current requirements as it stands, the best candidate for SODELPA Leader is Aseri Radrodro as first of all the leader has to be a member of parliament and secondly, seniority in parliament is also considered. Takayawa confirms that the management board made up of 30 members will meet in Suva tomorrow.

He adds that they are trying to forge or keep the whole coalition government together.

Takayawa says they are loyal to their words and they will stick to this until the agreement comes to an end in 3 years.

Questions sent to Gavoka and Radrodro remain unanswered.
