Only 251 teachers out of 973 who received full registration have been issued ID cards by the Fiji Teachers Registration Authority (FTRA).
This was revealed by Education Minister Aseri Radrodro in Parliament while responding to Opposition Member Hem Chand's question regarding the issuance of ID cards for teachers, as he says teachers have raised concerns they have not yet received their ID card.
Radrodro clarified that FTRA issues ID cards only to teachers who have attained full registration status and have submitted a formal application.
He says ID cards are usually given within 14 days from the date the application is received, and if teachers have not applied, they will not be given an ID card.
He says that in the financial year August 24, 2024 to July 31, 2025, FTRA received 251 ID card applications from fully registered teachers, all of which were approved and issued.
However, he noted that over the same period, 973 teachers were granted full registration — meaning the majority did not apply for the ID card.
Radrodro says FTRA is mandated to regulate teachers teaching in schools, and registered teachers receive either a registration letter or, upon application, an ID card confirming their full registration status.
