Radio Sargam sweets competition winner to spend the $250 prize money on groceries

Winner of the Sargam Holi Rang Birangi Mithaiya Competition Sushil Mati and winner of the Navtarang Rang Birangi Mithaiya Competition Anjilin Sharma.

The winner of the Sargam Holi Rang Birangi Mithaiya Competition which is sponsored by Ashabhai – Golden Harvest Dairy Fresh Milk says she will be spending her $250 cash price to purchase groceries as times are hard and anything unexpected can happen.

Sushil Mati who is from Wainadoi in Navua says she spent about a week making more than 70 different types of sweets but is grateful for her husband and daughter’s assistance.

Some of the unique sweets and savories she made includes cucumber peda, carrot barfi, chandrapala, grain and nuts laddoo, breakfast crackers and apricot ladoo, lauki and apricot barfi and other things such as saina, dahi bara, marshmallows, murku and nimkins.

Mati says she has won the competition for the 7th consecutive time now.

She further says the past couple of years have been very difficult for her as her husband who is a carrier driver did not work full time but she is grateful that their only daughter has graduated and is working as an accountant now.

The winner of the Navtarang Rang Birangi Mithaiya Competition which is sponsored by Ashabhai – Golden Harvest Dairy Fresh Milk says she made more that 17 types of sweets.

Anjilin Sharma says came up with the recipe for gulali which is made from powered milk and condensed milk for the competition.

She says she will spend the day with her baby son and husband and has not decided what to do with the $250 prize money.

Shakuntala Lata won $150 while Leela Reddy won $100 in the Sargam Mithai Competition while Asmita Devi $150 while Zafar Zariq won $100 for Navtarag Mithai Competition.

All participants and judges also received a gift hamper each from Ashabhai.

Holi, which is the celebration of colour and of good over evil will be celebrated Saturday.
