Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has expressed his gratitude to the UK Government for its invaluable support in safeguarding the world’s oceans and wildlife through its ‘30 by 30’ Global Ocean Alliance Initiative, which demonstrated the UK’s leadership in international nature conservation.

Rabuka stated this while receiving a courtesy call from the newly-appointed High Commissioner of the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland to Fiji, His Excellency, Kanbar Hossein-Bor.

He also expressed his gratitude for the United Kingdom’s strong support to Fiji through the Commonwealth.

The Prime Minister congratulated High Commissioner Hossein-Bor on his new role, stating that his appointment further reinforces the enduring partnership between Fiji and the UK.

During the meeting, Rabuka acknowledged that our people-to-people ties continue to remain strong, with more cooperation in areas such as education, sports and employment; particularly for Fijians who have enlisted in the British Armed Forces and their families, who now call the UK home.

He added that Fiji and the UK share commonwealth values, common goals and love for rugby.

Rabuka says that Fiji remains committed to the Commonwealth and acknowledges its principles and values and the mutual bond we share with other member States.

He further says that the robust and multifaceted relationship in crucial areas such as climate change, sustainable development and defence underscored the depth and breadth of the Fiji-UK bilateral relationship.

High Commissioner Hossein-Bor thanked the Prime Minister for the opportunity to meet and expressed the well-wishes of the Royal Family and the people of the United Kingdom to Hon. Rabuka and the people of Fiji.

He added that the UK will continue to work with Fiji to strengthen bilateral relations, advance shared priorities and work towards addressing global challenges together.

Fiji and the UK have maintained strong diplomatic ties rooted in historical connections and strengthened by ongoing collaboration across various sectors.
