Prime Minister, Sitiveni Rabuka has today confirmed that cabinet has approved the review of the name change policy implemented by amendments to the Interpretation Act and the Electoral (Registration of Voters) Act.

The Office of the Attorney General and the Ministry of Justice will carry out public consultations to the change of the law in 2021.

Rabuka says the review underscores the coalition government's commitment to re-evaluate laws enacted without adequate public consultations and deemed undemocratic.

The Prime Minister says the court action regarding the opposition to the law on name change has no effect on the planned review as this is based on the government’s plan to review the law.
