Eloni Salagi, a 60-year-old farmer from Naseyani Village in Ra, is encouraging others to make use of the land around them, as it can become a valuable source of income and support livelihoods.
Salagi had leased a piece of land at Waisai near Yaqara in 2017 and began farming.
He says he managed to purchase two vehicles, which have significantly helped in running his business.
The 60-year-old says he sells produce such as tomatoes, long bean, watermelon, cucumber and other vegetables that are harvested within a short period.
He says this morning he left his home at around 3am and arrived in Suva at 5am to sell his produce.

Salagi says that he chose to plant vegetables instead of root crops because he earns more each week through selling fresh produce.
He also says that he often hires youths from his village to assist him on the farm, along with help from his family members.
He adds that he also engages in cattle farming and is currently raising around 16 to 17 dozen cattle.
Salagi aims to expand his farm and be able to earn more to support his family.
