RFMF holds activities to commemorate the acts of bravery and valor of the highest order by Corporal Sefanaia Sukanaivalu

Army Commander, Major General Jone Kalouniwai says they are having a week of activities where they are commemorating the acts of bravery and valor of the highest order by Corporal Sefanaia Sukanaivalu who sacrificed his life on 23rd June 1944 for his comrades during the Second World War in the Solomon Islands.

The Army Commander has confirmed this for the public after fijivillage News received calls this morning after hearing several gunshots at Queen Elizabeth Barracks in Nabua.

Major General Kalouniwai says it is the RFMF infanteers celebrating Infantry Week.

He says the infantry skills competition begins today where all units will be competing against each other.

The Commander says the week’s activities is being held for Corporal Sukanaivalu’s selfless acts.

Corporal Sukanaivalu was also awarded the Victoria Cross, the highest award of gallantry in the Commonwealth.
