Prof. Brij Lal’s family suggests giving donation to FRIEND Fiji instead of sending flowers

The family of late Professor Brij Lal says instead of giving flowers to the family, they suggest donations to be sent to FRIEND Fiji.

Professor Lal passed away on Saturday in Brisbane, Australia.

He was a renowned historian, author, and a passionate pro-democracy activist. Professor Lal and his wife, Doctor Padma Lal were expelled from Fiji in 2009. He was born in Tabia, Labasa and received his university education in Canada and Australia. He was 69 years old. Professor Lal will be laid to rest this Thursday at the Great Northern Garden of Remembrance in Queensland.

Those who wish to give a donation to FRIEND Fiji can deposit money into their

ANZ Bank Account Name FRIEND and the account number is 6125208, BSB: 010-890, Swift Code: ANZBFJFX.

Meanwhile, the National Federation Party will hold a condolence gathering in memory of Professor Lal this Thursday from 10am to 3pm at Jai Narayan College Hall in Suva.

The Funeral Service will be live-streamed from Brisbane, Australia on a big screen from 1pm-3pm on Thursday.

Speakers at the condolence gathering will be former Prime Minister and People's Alliance Leader Sitiveni Rabuka, NFP Leader Professor Biman Prasad, Krishna Datt who taught Professor Lal in the then Labasa Secondary School, Prominent lawyer Richard Naidu and Professor Vijay Naidu.
