A pornography task force has been approved in Cabinet to do a feasibility study and detect the harmful effects of porn, aiming to ban porn access to children under 18.

Minister for Women, Children, and Social Protection Lynda Tabuya says there are other countries who have done this to ban porn as pornhub is one of the top 4 sites accessed in Fiji.

The Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Communications will be co-chairs of this task force.

She stresses that pornography is like a new drug, as it has the same effects on the brain like methamphetamine and cocaine and we need to fight this new drug.

Tabuya also says Telegram is a huge app and it is a crime to share pictures of children.

She says as Fiji continues to expand internet access in rural and remote areas to educate people, it also needs to have a national campaign to create awareness on the responsible use of the internet.
