Police patrol Valelevu area after concerns raised regarding alleged criminal activities

Following concerns raised by a Valelevu resident regarding alleged criminal activities and inaction by officers based at the Valelevu Police Station, Divisional Police Commander South SSP Wate Vocevoce says a team has been patrolling the area frequently and police are in regular contact with the residents.

A concerned resident alleges a home in the area is being used for prostitution and is also being frequented by police officers.

He says a man is staying at the house illegally where young people are exposed to drugs, marijuana and are sniffing glue.

He alleges two women were badly beaten and kicked by some people last week as well.

While responding to questions raised by fijivillage News, SSP Vocevoce says the Officer in Charge of Valelevu had looked into the recent and past claims and have ruled out the claims that the occupants of the house were assaulting the two women.

He says the two women are not known to the occupants as they were fighting near the crosscut next to their house, and they had stepped in to stop the fight.

SSP Vocevoce says they do not know who the two were as they were just passing by.

He says as for the issue of Valelevu Police not taking action, the Officer in Charge and a team have been conducting regular visitations in the area, as well as the family of the concerned resident who have been advised that police cannot remove anyone based on the allegation of illegal occupation on the piece of land. He says Police have reached out to the Ministry of Lands and discussions are being held regarding both parties.

SSP Vocevoce says the Officer in Charge has again visited both parties today, and a team has been patrolling the area frequently.

He says the location in question where claims are being made that many people are seen at the house or near the house is because there is a shortcut near the house.

Police are in regular contact with the residents as this has been an ongoing issue regarding land.
