Police confiscate 20 packets of white substance believed to be cocaine in a taxi in Nausori

6 people were arrested in Nausori Town in the past week for allegedly possessing marijuana and white substance believed to be cocaine.

This has been confirmed by Nausori Police Station Officer ASP Sunil Chand who says 20 packets of white substance believed to be cocaine were confiscated in a taxi on the Rewa Bridge.

Assistant Police Commissioner  Abdul Khan says the increase in the number of arrests is a positive sign as this shows that the police are doing their job.

It has also been confirmed that 9 people were arrested this week for drinking in a public place, 2 for grab and run and 1 for drinking and driving.

Khan says the person arrested for drunk and driving is a member of the Nausori business community who was one of those businessmen who was raising concerns about the crime rate in Nausori Town.

He has also confirmed that they confiscated stolen items from the person who was arrested for a grab and run incident.

These arrests are part of an ongoing operation by the police and other stakeholders as the business community had raised concerns about the level of crime in Nausori Town.

Police have arrested 16 people this week compared to 17 last week and booked 192 people for traffic infringements compared to 144 last week.

9 CCTV cameras were installed in Nausori while the Nausori Chamber of Commerce has also identified 4 more locations to install the cameras.

Digicel Fiji has also offered their assistance in assisting the business community in installing CCTV cameras.
